You would think that if an actor appears in many films, they would be famous. But that’s not always the case. There are plenty of actors who have appeared in dozens of films that we don’t know by name. On this list, we’ll take a look at 10 actors we’ve probably seen in countless flicks and TV shows, but only know by their faces. These are actors we know but can’t name.
Toby Jones

You’ve seen him in dozens of movies and TV shows before. Toby Jones has a respectable number of roles on his resume. Jones began his acting career in 1992, appearing in quite a few smaller supporting roles until 2006 when his starring role in Infamous turned him into a superstar. Well, not quite. Even though he’s been in Marvel movies as Doctor Arnim Zola and even played Truman Capote, nobody actually knows him by name.
Jon Polito

Jon Polito has appeared in a lot of movies over his 30-year career in acting. Sadly, his name isn’t uttered with the same admiration as the “Brad Pitts” and “Leonardo DiCaprios” of our time. And that’s sort of understandable. He isn’t really a lead actor. But he is a really good one. Perhaps you’ve seen Polito in one of the Coen Brothers’ films. The actor appeared in five of the duo’s movies, including the beloved The Big Lebowski. Sadly, Jon Polito passed away on September 1st, 2016.
Oliver Platt

Oliver Platt has been working on TV and films since 1988. He is one of those actors you surely remember from somewhere, but sadly, his name usually escapes your mind. Platt has been nominated for two Emmys and one Golden Globe for his outstanding performances in the past. But I bet you still won’t remember his name after this.
Wallace Shawn

Wallace Shawn is a renowned actor who has been in the business since 1979. His most prominent role might be Vizzini in The Princess Bride, but most people will probably remember his voice from the Toy Story franchise. He voices Rex the Tyrannosaurus.
Wayne Knight

Look, it’s that guy from Jurassic Park. And Seinfeld. And Space Jam. And Basic Instinct. What’s his name again? Knight has managed to avoid the dreaded “Seinfeld curse” to some degree. Much like Wallace Shawn, Knight has also taken part in voice acting, lending his voice to the character Al McWhiggin in Toy Story 2.
M. Emmet Walsh

Over 200 film and television roles: that’s just how dedicated Michael Emmet Walsh is to his craft. If Hollywood needed and old guy, they always cast him. From comedy to drama and everything in between, Walsh has been acting since 1969, long before some of the actors on this list were even born. The legendary actor passed away in March 19, 2024.
John Carroll Lynch

Better known for his role as Norm Gunderson in Fargo, John Carroll Lynch is a dedicated character actor who doesn’t nearly get all the recognition he deserves. You’ve seen him in a ton of films before. But until now, you probably didn’t even know his name.
William Fichtner

William Fichtner fits the definition of “famous actor nobody knows” to a T. Prison Break, The Dark Knight, Armageddon, Heat, Traffik, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Elysium, The Lone Ranger, Mr. & Mrs. Smith… I can go on and on. He’s been in so many good movies and TV shows.
Peter Stormare

Do you need a Russian guy? Here’s Peter Stormare, probably the most famous actor nobody knows. Oh, was it a German villain? Here’s Peter Stormare. Whenever there’s a bad guy in an action flick that’s vaguely Eastern European, there’s a good chance that it’s going to be played by Peter Stormare.
Liam Cunningham

Cunningham rose to mainstream popularity thanks to his role as ser Davos Seaworth in the hit TV series Game of Thrones. However, the Irish actor has been working in the film industry since 1992, mostly starring in small supporting roles. But until recently, nobody knew his name. See and learn more: Lifestyle Fortress
