On Christmas Day, the 12-year-old posted her third official Instagram photo, which shows the young celebrity flashing diamond shark grills. Naturally, the internet weighed in and they have pretty strong feelings about her new look.
The Instagram carousel shows North with dyed long blue hair and a set of pointed diamond grillz designed by Johnny Dang & Co.. The intense look is meant to be inspired by shark teeth, which you often see in hip hop music videos. Of course, an Instagram Stories video also made sure no one missed the sparkle of the diamonds.
But it’s not just the grill that’s got everyone talking. They also had plenty to say about her outfit: a Balenciaga Tat hoodie priced at $1,700, matching sweatpants for $1,400, and rare Chrome Hearts x Rick Owens sneakers. Many believe a 12-year-old shouldn’t be dressed so flashy. But what do you expect when your parents are on the frontline of flashy?
North also added a Chrome Hearts Silichrome Infinity Cross Ring in bright blue. It’s also no longer in stores, but you can still find it online for under $500. But if we’re honest, the mix of unreachable and oddly attainable feels very on brand for this family, though.
Followers were also quick to point out that some photos look like they were shot on the family’s all-white private jet. It’s all blasted with high flash for maximum drama. Another pic shows North standing next to Johnny Dang in a winter setup built in the Kardashian Hidden Hills backyard. There’s even fake snow.
But this isn’t a random splurge. There are reports that say Kanye had been planning the grillz for a long while now. Kim also posted a selfie with Dang in her backyard a few weeks earlier.
So what’s the issue? Well, critics jumped in with concerns about North’s look at her age. Kim responded on Call Her Daddy, pushing back. “It’s really hard and it’s really interesting because all the kids are wearing the same things,” she said. “Unfortunately, we made that mistake in front of the whole world.”
The lesson learnt? Maybe the world isn’t ready for 12-year-olds with diamond shark grills.
