Promoting an action movie usually means talking about bruises, training, and how many things exploded on set. When Kate Beckinsale showed up on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, she skipped all that and went straight to bathroom-based folklore. Somewhere in there, her new film Wildcat also got a mention.
Beckinsale, 52, explained that the past year has been rough. She and her daughter Lily Mo Sheen, 26, lost both of Kate’s parents. Enter Lily’s unnamed boyfriend, a small beam of light during a bleak stretch. That beam got weird fast. As Beckinsale put it, “He laid two eggs in a week is what the bright spot was.”
Jimmy Kimmel froze. America leaned closer.
She clarified without blinking. “It came out the route it would come out of a hen. Well, not his vagina. He went to the bathroom and was very surprised to find that he had laid an egg.” Beckinsale suspected mischief. “I said to him, ‘Is this some kind of attention-seeking? Are you putting eggs up your bottom?’ But I think it’s quite hard to put an egg up your bottom and then get it out whole without injuring the egg.”
A second egg arrived that same week. This time, Lily documented it. Beckinsale scrolled through the photos backstage like a proud parent, while Kimmel tried to process his career choices. “What in the world,” he said. “Your daughter’s boyfriend is the Easter Bunny, there’s no other way to explain this!”
Doctors weighed in and only added confusion. “All of them basically said it was some sort of complicated mast***ation thing,” Beckinsale said. “Which it wasn’t.” For her, the mystery became a coping mechanism. “I got very involved in this because I really did need a distraction because everything was so horrible.”
The boyfriend reacted like any twenty-something discovering surprise eggs in his life. Pure panic. Beckinsale, on the other hand, loved it. “It’s my favorite thing he’s ever done, and I really like him. But it’s been a while, and I’m ready for another one.”
For the science crowd at home, mammals don’t lay eggs, minus five monotremes hiding out in Australia and New Guinea. None are dating Lily Mo Sheen. As movie marketing goes, this probably wasn’t in the plan. It’s working anyway. Go see Kate Beckinsale in Wildcat.
