Netflix’s Country Ever After lost its brightest burst of energy. Criscilla Anderson, who danced alongside megastars like Rihanna and Britney Spears long before we ever saw her wrangling kids on camera, died on December 2 after a seven-year fight with colon cancer. She was 45.
Her final message hit Instagram like a hug from someone who refuses to say goodbye. “If you’re reading this, I’ve finally slipped into the arms of Jesus—peacefully and surrounded by love,” she wrote. She didn’t want anyone drowning in sorrow, adding, “Please don’t stay in the darkness of this moment. I fought hard and I loved deeply. I am not gone… I’m Home.”
That line alone could knock the wind out of you.
Criscilla first learned she had stage 4 colon cancer in 2018. She beat it back into remission by 2021, because of course she did. Then it crept back in late 2022. A stroke revealed the cancer had spread to her brain, yet she still hoped for more time with her kids. She called them her “whole heart”: Ethan, 14, Savannah, 17, Emmarie, 12, and little Everleigh, 9. Each one received a personal note from Mom. No dry eyes anywhere.

Fans met the Anderson family in Country Ever After, a 2020 Netflix reality show that followed Criscilla’s treatments while she continued working as a hip-hop dancer. The show made one thing clear: she wasn’t slowing down for anyone. Dance was part of her DNA, whether performing with Snoop Dogg or helping the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders pick their next squad earlier this year.
Her ex-husband, country artist Coffey Anderson, wrote a tribute that will stay with a lot of people: “Criscilla defined strength and fighter like no other person on the planet. Heaven gained a star today.” He also said, “We did good with them,” talking about their kids, which feels like the kind of line Criscilla would tease him for before giving him a proud smile.
Friends, stars, and former coworkers—from Viola Davis to American Idol alum Danny Gokey—poured love into comment sections all week. That says plenty about how she lived.
She told her children, “When a moment feels warm, familiar, or too beautiful to be coincidence — that’s me.” And you believe her.
