Jessica Simpson’s return to acting is anything but subtle. The 44-year-old singer-turned-actress has resurfaced on screen in All’s Fair, a Hulu legal drama from Ryan Murphy that’s more about chaos, cosmetic disasters, and courtroom drama than courtroom justice. Starring alongside Kim Kardashian, Naomi Watts, and Sarah Paulson, Simpson takes on a wild role that involves hours of makeup, heavy prosthetics, and a face that looks like it just lost a brawl with a plastic surgeon’s scalpel.
Jessica Simpson’s character’s story in All’s Fair isn’t light either. Simpson plays a woman whose plastic surgery goes horribly wrong after being pressured by her ex-husband. Fueled by rage and regret, she turns to Allura Grant, played by Kardashian, who runs an all-female law firm to plot her revenge.

Speaking to Deadline, Simpson didn’t sugarcoat the experience. “I really embody someone that I am not, so I was definitely acting,” she said. The prosthetic process was grueling too. It took eight hours in the makeup chair before the cameras even rolled.
Despite the amazing cast, which includes Glenn Close, Niecy Nash-Betts, Teyana Taylor, and the rest of Murphy’s dream team, the show isn’t exactly winning over the critics. All’s Fair currently holds a brutal 0% score on the Tomatometer and a 53% on the Popcornmeter. Basically, audiences are curious, critics are skeptical, and Simpson’s prosthetic face might be getting more attention than the plot.
Whether All’s Fair ends up a cult hit or a courtroom disaster, Jessica Simpson’s performance definitely stands out.
