Jane Seymour turned 75 last month, but you really wouldn’t say the Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman actress is seven decades old. She looks like someone half her age. Her secret is not really a miracle diet, exercise or cosmetic surgery. In fact, she believes “the best facelift is a smile.” And it’s clearly working. That’s the professional advice of our favorite TV doctor.

While most 75-year-olds are considering retirement and winding down, Seymour calls these last few years the busiest she’s ever been in her career. Even though most of us first met her as Dr. Michaela Quinn back in 1993, she’d been actively working in the industry for a long time – even landing roles as a Bond Girl in Live and Let Die and then, of course, Cathy Ames in East of Eden. And although she’s done all that. She’s still far from done.
Over the years, Seymour has aged naturally and taken on emotional roles, including playing women with Alzheimer’s. That’s something that would require full control of her facial expressions – a reason why she’s stayed away from cosmetic procedures during her career. “If you’re going to be that emotional, you need every muscle in your face,” she explained.
And just taking a look at her IMDB page, it’s clear she isn’t slowing down at all. She’s still pushing herself and taking on new characters. For example, Harry Wild, the Irish detective comedy-drama has given her a whole new audience. She’s not limited to playing variations of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman in every role she gets. In that way, her career has become a little unpredictable. In a good way, of course.
And with regards to her looking good at 75, she’s got a few interesting responses. “I love the Mediterranean way of eating, it works so well and it tastes good, it includes a lot of delicious food like tomatoes, olives and fish,” she told Daily Mail. “I start the day with coffee and hard boiled eggs for protein, and it isn’t till later, around lunch time, that I have a full meal because then I can really enjoy it.”
Seymour also does intermittent fasting and keeps fit by doing workouts, which include hiking around Malibu and pilates.
With regards to skincare, she keeps it simple too: Cleanse, exfoliate, moisturize. She also nevers sleeps in makeup and loves wearing big hats (we’ve seen that a few times). She’s also a fan of products like Crepe Erase.
With all of that said, it’s her attitude towards aging that’s different to most famous stars. After a near-death experience in 1988, she started treating her body like… a car. “Your car is only as good as you keep it,” she said. It makes sense when you think about it.
At 75, Jane Seymour isn’t trying to turn back time or to stay young forever. She’s embracing her age and the skin she’s in. And it’s something a lot of other actresses could learn from.
