There are many strange and exciting shoe and footwear concepts all around the world, from shoes that look like the foot of a fawn, shoes that look like they are being eaten by monsters and shoes that look like they could take you to space. But we have never seen shoes like these Balenciaga “Just Metal” concept shoes. The name says it all.
Balenciaga “Just Metal” Concept Shoe
While Balenciaga is known for the chunky and outlandish designs and ideas, nothing he has made comes close to this “Just Metal” concept.
The name says it all, and there isn’t much else to these “shoes” (if you can even call them that). They are made of what looks like brushed steel. They have been constructed of odd shapes and cutouts that are welded together to make a polyhedral shape that fits even the most oversized feet or the smallest, with many pairs of socks and padding.
The shape of these shoes is what you would get if you asked a child or someone who wasn’t a skilled artist to draw a rough shape of shoes, with minimal shape and definition other than the welding marks at each corner.

To the credit of these “shoes”, they are a statement piece that would look gorgeous in almost any museum as an art installation. Still, they would be entirely impractical as footwear. Impossible to move in, loose-fitting and uncomfortable (because you are wrapping your foot in metal with no inner lining in sight), these weren’t meant to be shoes but leave an impact as art.
While some might think that the very welds on the outside detract from the sneakers, I feel the opposite. From the laser-etching of “Balenciaga” on the lateral side of each “shoe”, it’s clear that the artist could have done much more precise and intricate work if they wanted to, but chose to leave the welds as they were for an industrial and impressionist approach, and I am here for it.
I would never wear these, but I would love to have them as a decorative piece…or a planter in the garden.
Creator – @canyaon
Usually, when a shoe is called a concept, it means that there isn’t a physical pair out there somewhere in the world, but this is the case for this very unrealistic shoe concept. The concept designer @canyaon made these cumbersome, entirely metal shoes.

These aren’t the only insanely impractical shoes that this artist has created. From Mizuno Styrofoam runners to sneakers inspired by a rock-climbing wall to Nike Air Monarch sneakers covered in spring-bobble heads of his own head, he has brought some really crazy sneakers into existence.
For now, his concepts are purely for viewing purposes, as he has yet to drop a link to where we could buy these strange and epic sneakers. However, I am confident they would sell out in minutes if he ever did.
Would you even consider owning these Balenciaga “Just Metal” concept shoes, let alone wear them?
